Marking Panel marker duties

Acceptance of a contract to provide services to ETS Europe as a Marker at a Marking Panel (MP) will be regarded as an undertaking to meet the following requirements, in accordance with instructions provided at the meeting.

Attendance at Marking Panel is dependent on:

  • satisfactory completion of training on the mark scheme application
  • passing standardisation after the training
  • successfully completing benchmarking attempts during the marking of the markers standard allocation of live scripts
  • taking part in the sampling of scripts at MP
  • satisfactory work rates at MP.

Markers whose marking is found to be inaccurate or inconsistent, or do not complete the required minimum number of scripts, will be unable to continue marking at the marking panel.

You will be required to:

1.   Mark pupils’ scripts from schools allocated by ETS Europe according to the instructions provided and to provide samples of work as required.

2.     Apply the mark scheme for the tests consistently to all marking undertaken at the MP.

3.    Follow all marking instructions as directed by the supervisor allocated to you at MP.  This may include remarking all, or parts, of the scripts allocated to you.

4.    Mark for a minimum of 7.5 hours (excluding breaks) between the hours of 8am until 6pm.  The daily marking period will not be extended outside of these hours.

5. Follow all administrative instructions as directed by the ETS Europe representative(s) in attendance at MP.

6.  Carry out other tasks designated to you by ETS Europe or your supervisor as required.

Please note:

ETS Europe cannot guarantee that there will be marking for the whole of the marking period. If there are insufficient scripts to allocate to the MP, marking at the MP may cease before the end of the MP marking period.  ETS Europe will make every effort to keep markers informed of this possibility as soon as it becomes apparent.  In this eventuality, markers will be paid only for the days they have attended MP.
