Online mark capture FAQs What is OMC? OMC stands for Online Mark Capture which is the process of capturing the pupil's marks online.
What is online mark capture? Online mark capture is the online marker application which replaces last year's paper marksheets and is where markers enter (capture) the marks for each pupil. Online mark capture will automatically add up the marks and assign levels.
How do I enter marks online? Once you have marked the hard copies of pupils' test scripts, you will need to enter those marks online. To do that you will first need to access the 'Marker links' screen by following the Online marker applications link on this site. You will then need to select the 'Online mark capture' link. This section of Online marker applications is where you will be entering your marks. Fur further, more detailed guidance on how to enter marks online please refer to the Making your mark online - applications user guide or try our Online marker applications demonstrations.
I have read online that markers can return their scripts without entering marks in the online mark capture system and that ETS staff will do this for us at the warehouse. Is this correct? No, this is incorrect. Markers must not return scripts without entering all marks into the online mark capture system. Entering marks online is a prerequisite to generating payment and bonuses. Please ensure you enter all marks online otherwise you may not receive a payment. If you are having trouble entering marks online then please download and print a paper marksheet from the 2008 document library on Making a mark and return with your scripts. On the script bags write "online mark capture incomplete" which will help the warehouse.
NB: Please always refer to the marker helpdesk and/or Making a mark for the most up-to-date accurate information on the 2008 marking cycle. Please do NOT rely on unauthorised information or rumours about the marking process that may have been posted in online forums, news sites and other sources, even by other markers, as they have not been sanctioned or approved by ETS Europe or the National Assessment Agency, and may be highly inaccurate.
Will Online mark capture automatically save my work? As you work in the Online mark capture application, you will need to click the 'Save' button everytime you enter your marks. It is important you keep saving your work as otherwise your work will be lost.
Am I supposed to mark scripts on paper and online? Yes, you will need to mark all scripts on paper, and then input the marks online.
Inputting marks only online creates extra work. Why do we need to do it? Inputting marks online is important as it will reduce clerical error, save paper and eradicate level setting.
Why is my "Marker progress" link not opening? The Marker progress screen can take up to one minute and 30 seconds to open. This is because the screen performs a number of calculations to produce statistics relating to each marker on your team while it is loading. Please try opening the screen and wait for up to two minutes to see if the screen opens.
Will we receive any extra payment for capturing marks online? Yes, you will receive a fee of £0.25 per script entered online.
Will I get paid if I don’t enter marks into the Online mark capture system? Payments and bonuses are triggered by entering marks for scripts into the online mark capture system. If marks are not captured online the system will not be able to record your activity and the system will not be able to generate your payments.
I have marked everything and entered the marks but for some reason I cannot submit. Will I still get my £100 bonus? Yes. If you have completed everything and returned your scripts but still cannot submit your marks by the marking deadline then you will still get paid your bonus. However, please call the marker helpdesk which can check your screen and submit button for any problems.
A school has submitted two attempts at the same paper for one of their pupils. What should I do? Only mark the first attempt. Pupils may not re-sit any test and therefore only the first attempt should be marked. Re-sitting a test is maladministration. Please contact your team leader to discuss how to report this case appropriately and send any enclosed correspondence from the school to the ETS Europe address provided in the marker handbook.
I am finding that for KS2 English I cannot mark using zeroes. Why is this? The Online mark capture system does not allow the use of zero (0) in some instances. If this is required please use the “did not attempt” button instead. The data will be treated the same as zero in the backend system.
I have partially marked my allocation but cannot submit marks as I am still awaiting a number of scripts. If ETS do not attempt to deliver the remainder of your scripts, we will pay you for all the scripts you have marked as well as a bonus of £100, as long as they are returned by the marking deadline.
I need to make a change or amendment to a tier or mark for a pupil. How can I do this? Please make sure you have your scripts with you as any changes to tiers and marks will clear all the marks for that pupil/paper combination and will need to be entered again. You need to go into the script verification section for the paper being changed and make the relevant change to the tier or mark against the pupil. Following this you must re-submit the paper for script verification. If you need to make an amendment click on the pupil's name in the OMC and make the changes. Changes should take overnight to appear. If you need any more help please call the marker helpdesk on 0870 161 4529 or email markers@testoperations.org.uk.
I notified you that I need to change tiers for a pupil. I understand that there is a fix in progress but when will I see the result of this on my screen? Changes should occur overnight so please check the next day. The changes should occur within the next 72 hours.
